The SMMR Network (SMMR-Net) was a new, developing community of researchers and policy stakeholders, who saw mutual benefit in discussing their respective challenges and opportunities in order to develop more holistic solutions to marine management.
SMMR-Net aimed to be an inclusive and interdisciplinary community, with membership and scope well beyond the UKRI SMMR Programme and funded projects. The network launched back in April with an open-invite, interactive workshop, in which 100 participants took part in discussions to shape its development.
It is clear that interdisciplinary research is key for delivering holistic, solutions-based approaches to some of the greatest challenges facing society and the environment. The objectives of the network were to support the development of interdisciplinary skills and capacity among its members, by providing:
