Oceans is a bi-annual event for global marine researchers, technologists, engineers, students, and policymakers. The researchers and industrial leaders gather for four days to highlight, discuss and exchange relevant topics and current trends in marine technologies. This will help in creating awareness and cooperation on advanced research areas, practices, and policies for the marine field. The Marine Technology Society and the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society partner to present OCEANS, and this prestigious conference and exhibition draws an audience of more than 2,000 attendees.
This conference represents an important opportunity for key members of the UK marine science and technology community to engage with Indian and other international delegates to share information, establish contacts and networks and seek to establish collaborations.
The UKSIN team have requested that we select delegates from at least two UK nations to address the following areas: marine renewable energy, fisheries, aquaculture and marine litter.
UKSIN will provide up to £2,000 for each of the selected delegates to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, meals, and registration for the conference. Each delegate must be willing and able to represent the UK marine research community in the subject areas UKSIN have prescribed. Each delegate will need to have a strategic understanding of the research landscape with respect to these areas of interest and promote UK expertise and collaborative interest, not just their own interest or those of their respective institutions.
UKSIN staff have agreement from the conference organisers that members of the UK delegation will have an opportunity to deliver a presentation at the conference which should also be used to provide an overview of UK capability and to highlight possible areas of mutual interest with India.
UKSIN will provide up to £2,000 for each of the selected delegates to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, meals, and registration for the conference. The UKSIN team will also facilitate side meetings with relevant individuals and organisations in India to encourage opportunities for future collaboration.
Members of the delegation will be required to provide a brief report of their attendance including observations and insights that could potentially help other UK researchers collaborate with Indian colleagues. Notes related to useful contacts and emerging areas of interests should also be included. These reports will be compiled and made available through the MASTS and SMMR websites to the UK marine research community.
To apply to be a member of the delegation, please provide a CV (maximum two pages) and a statement of your interests in developing or expanding existing collaborations with India (maximum 1 sides of A4).

COVID-19 Note: The conference is by attendance in-person. The relevant COVID regulations in place for travel to India for February 2022 will apply. However, UKSIN have accepted that if quarantine (cf 10 days) is in place then travel for the meeting is untenable and we have made it clear that we are not prepared to commit to leading the delegation if the quarantine arrangements prevent timely participation. UKSIN have confirmed that they are prepared to accept the risk and loss of funds associated with their commitment to the delegation if we cancel our participation under these circumstances.
